About the Book (out of
print, almost out of stock!)
From the back cover of the book: In
sports, gaining an edge can and does make the difference between winning and
losing. Over the last decade, nutrition researchers have made enormous strides
in understanding how our bodies utilize various key nutrients during periods
of athletic activity. Unfortunately, the conflicting information on nutrition
filling the airwaves and the pages of popular magazines has had everyone
running in circles. Dynamic Nutrition for Maximum Performance clears the
confusion. Designed for professional and amateur athletes, fitness exercisers,
trainers, coaches, and nutritionists, this book is a complete, easy to use
guide to today's sports nutrition. It is intended to help you achieve and
maintain maximum levels of fitness and performance through sport specific
dietary intake and nutritional supplementation. Written by two highly
qualified specialists in performance nutrition and fitness science, this book
blends the latest in scientific research with time tested techniques. It
explains the basic elements of sports nutrition in plain language, and then
helps you use that information to develop an effective customized performance
nutrition program.
Dynamic Nutrition for Maximum Performance is divided into four parts. Part One
looks at the macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fat, water, and oxygen)
and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and metabolites). It tells you how to
obtain these nutrients from food and supplement sources. Included are
comprehensive listings of the new generations of effective sports supplements
and herbs currently available -- from BHBM to octacosanol, and from alfalfa to
yerba mat? Part Two covers the basics of anatomy, digestion, and absorption,
and provides the latest information on metabolism and body composition. In
Part Three, the key sports nutrition concerns of fat loss, muscle building,
and carbohydrate loading are discussed, and step by step directions for their
effective accomplishment are offered. Part Four then puts it all together into
sport specific plans that give exact dietary guidelines and supplementation
recommendations for over 150 sports and fitness activities. A guide at the
beginning of Part Four helps you find the plan that fits your sport.
Throughout the book, you will find useful insets that highlight important
sports nutrition information and show you how to perform key nutrient
calculations.
Dynamic Nutrition for Maximum Performance is your first resource to optimum
performance. With its user friendly format and highly focused information, it
will make designing the perfect nutrition and supplementation program quick
and easy. It will fast become as important a tool in your game plan as your
weights, clubs, or rackets.
