Peptic conditions can pose a problem for foals, adult horses, and horses under stress.
There are many reasons why peptic conditions can occur. They are increased stress (high levels of the stress hormone cortisol),
bacterial infection (Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori) or feeding programs high in soluble carbohydrates and low in fiber.
The ingredients in Peptic Ease EQ are helpful in normalizing gut pH, supporting the mechanisms involved in maintaining normal
gastric mucus production and the protective mucosal barrier, and supporting cortisol balance, a hormone associated with physical stress that may result in ulcer formation.
The specialized yeast extract is rich in mannon oligosaccharides (MOS) a special type of complex polysaccharide that offers binding sites to keep unwanted materials from binding to the gut wall. MOS forms a complex with the unwanted materials and since MOS is not broken down by digestive enzymes the complex is able to pass through the GI tract to be expelled by the body.
Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins, tannins, and other beneficial compounds that support epithelial cells from being bound by unwanted materials. These compounds are sticky and pick up unwanted materials and help them to be flushed from the body. Cranberry also seems to have positive effects on the mucus membranes that line the G.I. Tract.
Fermentation products of direct fed microbials encourage the growth of helpful bacteria to quickly re-establish proper microflora levels in the G.I. tract. Fungal derived enzymes from Aspergillus oryzae provides both protease and amylase enzymes, which break down proteins and starches, which results in improved digestion and assimilation.
Colostrum helps to support immunity and flush unwanted materials from the horses body.
Chromium may help normalize cortisol concentrations to support the release of protective mucus in the G.I. tract.
