General information regarding U.S. Animal Nutritionals products with Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) as a key ingredient

MSM / Methylsulfonylmethane:

  • A formula to support joint and connective tissue function for cats, dogs, and horses.

  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a sulfur compound found in the body that has a normalizing influence on bodily functions.

  • MSM supplementation helps support collagen synthesis for connective tissue health, maintain cell membrane flexibility, and promote cell regeneration.  The concentration of MSM in the body decreases with age, so supplementation can be beneficial.

  • Low levels of MSM in the body are associated with brittle hooves or nails, and dull coat, as well as gastrointestinal, immune system, and joint and connective tissue dysfunction.

  • MSM is a naturally occurring sulfur compound found in the body and in foods. Sulfur is a critical component of many important amino acids contained in our cellular proteins.  Sulfur is an essential component of various compounds and processes in the body and is necessary for the synthesis of collagen, immunoglobulin and enzymes.

    •  Maintains cell membrane flexibility and permeability, promoting an efficient exchange of nutrients and waste products.

    •  Supports connective tissue health and the formation of collagen.

    •  Provides the body with raw materials needed to create new cells in the body.

    •  Important for energy production as a component of insulin and a prerequisite for normal carbohydrate metabolism.

  • In the body, MSM gives up its sulfur to form methionine and cysteine.  These sulfur containing amino acids are known to protect against the effects of radiation and chelates heavy metals for removal from the body.  As a natural source of organic sulfur, MSM provides sulfur to form (the amino acid) Cysteine which aids in the production of collagen, necessary for connective tissue repair.  Cysteine is also a potent free radical scavenger.

* MSM has no known toxicity or contraindications and is either used, or excreted from the body.
